Two months ago we got a new puppy.  He is a 5 month old rat terrier named Chevy.  He weighs only 15 pounds but he can do a world of damage from dog toys to shoes to blankets to floors! Oh boy!

We have looked into  pet-friendly carpet and carpet pad but we love our beautiful red oak floor and it has performed like a champ with the new pup.  Chevy’s little accidents are quickly and easily cleaned.  We don’t let anything sit too long and we clean with the manufacturer’s recommended supplies as we do with our regular cleaning.  We keep Chevy’s nails trimmed and have not seen any wear from his constant running and jumping (he has a lot of energy).  For our lifestyle (both humans and pets) hardwood is our preferred choice.

Recently at Thanksgiving I was introduced to an older couple from New Jersey. They had moved to Florida now that they are retired and were really enjoying their southern migration. They mentioned that they both were experiencing slight foot and back pains.

 They went out and purchased comfortable shoes but that didn’t stop the pain.   I asked them what kind of floors they have in their home. They said it was tiled with beautiful ceramic floors in the living and kitchen areas.   They said they walked around barefoot, but didn’t think that would be the cause of their problem. But it was!

Tile and natural stone can be really hard on your feet, knees, hips and back. Unlike carpet, there is no carpet pad to absorb the shock between you and the hard, un-yielding  floor.
